Greeted by cheerful holiday decorations and the aroma of holiday food, 34 quilters met for Piecemakers monthly quilt club meeting and end-of-the-year party on Wednesday, November 16. Evelyn Eades welcomed members and guests. Susan Moore conducted the business portion of the meeting. Pam Davis gave the treasurer’s report and Virginia Reynolds gave the sunshine report.
This was our last month for the Mug Rug of the Month. Eloise Brown invited those who had completed their Christmas Tree Mug Rug to show them. Twelve members participated and three won prizes. Prize winners were Karen Warner, Patsy Huie, and Brenda Dunlap. Gail Goss will be coordinating our Block of the Month for 2017. She has chosen two different quilts for us; so you can choose to do one or both. She passed out the patterns for January. Bring your completed block (or blocks) to the January meeting.
Ida Holt reminded us that our Spring Retreat is coming up! It is scheduled for February 27 through March 2 at Mount Eagle.
Our UFO Challenge for 2016 ended. Pam Davis tallied the slips and the winners are: Evelyn Eades completed the most UFO’s—she completed six. Linda Lite completed the oldest UFO—from 2007. Three participant prizes were given to Brenda Pasterniak, Doris Brown and Gail Hannah. By popular demand, the UFO Challenge will begin again in January for 2017. All eligible projects must have been started prior to 2017 and finished in 2017. The projects should be Quilts or Wall-hangings at least 24-inches square. When you bring a completed UFO for Sew and Tell, you will fill out a form with the date the project was started and the date completed and it will go in a box. At the end of the year, prizes will be given.
Our Program for January is Tips to Share—please come prepared to share one of your favorite quilting tips. Janet Kuykendahl will demonstrate Anita’s Arrowhead and will help those who want to stay for Sit and Sew. For the Sit and Sew, you will need to bring two fabric squares (that coordinate and contrast) each 8-inches or larger and your sewing machine and regular sewing supplies.
This month for Sew and Tell, we saw: a twin sized donation quilt in yellow and navy; some mug rugs; a Christmas quilt; an English Wedding Ring quilt top; a table runner; 3 Yoyo Tree Wall Hangings; a diamonds table topper; a Cowboy quilt; a bag with matching wallet.
Following our business meeting, we enjoyed a delicious pot luck luncheon. At the conclusion, we participated in a Fat Quarter passing game—yes, it was difficult to keep up with the “rights” and ‘lefts”. Thank You to our party committee—Ida Holt, Lori Griffin, Gail Hannah, and Gerri Green.
There will be no meeting in December. Our next meeting will be January 18, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Clinton. Guests are welcome to attend.
