(Batesville, Ark.)— Anthony Kunnumpurath, M.D. and Ron Varghese, M.D., White River Medical Center (WRMC) Internal Medicine Residents represented WRMC at the 2017 Arkansas Chapter Scientific Meeting of ACP (American College of Physicians) in Little Rock.
Dr. Anthony Kunnumpurath presented a poster entitled Chronic Melomonocytic Leukemia (CCML) Presenting with Seropositivity for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Polyserositis. He received first place in the Clinical Vignette Poster Category.
Dr. Ron Varghese placed third in the Oral Clinical Vignette Category. He gave an oral presentation entitled A Patient with Excessive Fatigue, Neutropenia, Anemia, and Positive Rheumatoid Factor.
“Drs. Kunnumpurath and Varghese competed against participants from other residency programs, some of whom were in their final year of training. To win awards in their respective categories in their first few months of residency training is an impressive accomplishment,” said Smotherman. “The WRHS Graduate Medical Education team is proud of them.”
Dr. Kunnumpurath and Dr. Varghese are two of the IM Residency Class of 2020 at WRMC. The IM Class of 2020 also includes; Machel Germain, M.D.; Lili Hanefeld-Fox, M.D.; Paige Heflin, M.D.; Bryan Huang, M.D.; Lissette Jimenez, M.D.; Doreen Kamoga, M.D.; Neal Mehta, M.D.; and Anastasia Postoev, M.D.
The WRHS program is the first ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency program in Arkansas outside of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) system.
