FFB Library October E-news

October 5, 2018 By Dan Feuer

Fall or Autumn is definitely in the air.

When you pull up to the library you will notice that our maple tree is changing to the colors of fall. Also check out our quilt square which is installed between us and the Pharmacy.

OCTOBER IS MEMBERSHIP MONTH:
October marks the beginning of our membership drive because that was the month in 2006 that we converted to an electronic library system all of which (catalog and members) was entered by those wonderful volunteers that help run a lot of the functions of the library.
We have various levels of yearly membership and would ask you consider increasing your level this year. There is also a Lifetime option of a one time donation of $500 or more which means you never have to worry about renewal.
Basic………………$15 or more
Household………$25 or more

Visionary……….$50 or more
Supporter………..$100 or more
Lifetime…………..$500 or more

BOOK CLUB:
The Library provides a place for the meeting of the Readers Book Club. They meet on the third Friday of the month at 10am over the fall, winter and spring. We will post the line up as soon as we receive it.

RECENT PURCHASES:
We have been able to add greatly to the Large Print section of the library with the purchase of 31 books that were greatly reduced.
Even our Audio Book section has felt the benefits. Catherine Coulter’s Paradox, JD Robb’s Leverage In Death and The Glass Ocean by our author’s featured in the September Author Spotlight.

CHRISTMAS TOUR OF HOMES:
This is a fundraiser for the library which will be held Sunday, December 9th 2018 from 1 to 4pm. The tour will begin at the library when you purchase your ticket and end back at the library for munchies and to tour the library decorations.  The Lake Area Weekly will be running a weekly synopsis of each home in the weeks leading up to the event.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY:
This is a group of ‘Friends’ who support the Library with the organization of fundraising events. Future events in the planning stages are a Trivia Night in February and a possible Pickle Ball night. The ‘Friends’ are always looking for other friends who would like to help with these endeavors. If you would like to help, make yourself known to Karen.

NUNCRACKERS:
This is the latest offering by Our Towne Productions and is an hilarious musical comedy about a group of Nun’s. Karen, our Director will be providing the musical accompaniment on the piano.

Performances are held on the following dates:

  • Friday, October 26th at 7pm
  • Saturday, October 27th at 7pm
  • Saturday, November 3rd at 7pm
  • Sunday, November 4th at 2pm (matinee)
The event is a joint fundraiser for the Library and the Conference Center.  Tickets will go on sale at the FFB Conference Center and the FFB Library on October 1st.

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT:  SOPHIE KINSELLA

Why did I pick this author?

First, the cover caught my eye as I roamed the shelves. Second, it’s not an author that I have read before and thirdly after checking over the books it looks like a lot of folks have not read her books. They have rarely been checked out.

I chose to check out Surprise Me and am enjoying it. Waiting for the cliff hanger to drop as the narrative builds.

She is known for her Shopaholic series as well as standalone books. Maybe the fact that she is a British author accounts for her lack of circulation at the library.

Add her to your to be read pile. Based on what I have read so far, you will not be disappointed.

ART AND LOBBY GALLERY:

Art by Joyce Hartmann and antique dolls from Charlotte Cumings remain up on the walls and lobby display cabinet through the end of October.
