Community Education Center Spring 2018 Schedule
Greetings Fairfield Bay,
With the success of our Heritage Center Ribbon Cutting and the Hotel Groundbreaking Celebration, April was a banner month for community development in Fairfield Bay and the Mayor announced to the audience that “The Bay is Back”!
May brings us Bloomin’, Blue and BBQ in the Bay on Mother’s Day weekend. There will be a lot of activities and plenty of beautiful plants offered by our Master Gardeners. The Cool Pool opens up this month, the Education Center is hosting a weekly Thursday morning Farmer’s Market in the Village Gazebo, and there’s always something to do at the marina. “Bloomin’ in the Bay” has become “Booming in the Bay”.
The Sterling Scholars lecture series is held from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Indian Hills Little Red Restaurant during the Rotary Club meeting on the first Wednesday of the month. This event is open to the public and purchase of lunch is optional.
SAVE THE DATE: We will have two June presenters – Parkin Archeological State Park Superintendent Ben Swadley who will speak about Flint Knapping on June 6th, and Arkansas Archeological Society member Don Higgins who will present a program on Petit Jean Mountain Rock Art Pictographs on June 20th.
Our plans for the 4th of July celebration in the Bay include a small town parade in the morning, live history demonstrations at the Heritage Center in the afternoon, and of course the fabulous fireworks on the water after dark.
TOM SAWYER DAYS: MAY 17th planning meeting
Can you churn butter, play the mandolin, tell a story, paint a fence or sing in a barbershop quartet? Come and take part in our “Tom Sawyer Days” at the Heritage Center following the parade (July 4th). If you would like to volunteer, please attend our planning meeting on Thursday, May 17 at 1pm at the Education Center.
Community Education Center hosts our perennial favorite classes:
1. Barbara Cornett’s fused glass class has taken a new twist with the addition of wind chimes. Hear the wind catch the warm breezes with your own custom creation of striking colorful glass. This class is taught every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm and all materials are provided.
2. Our Tuesday morning Paint with Jim class is as popular as ever with many loyal residents and returning guests meeting from 10am to 12noon to learn the value of color with acrylics and complete an entire picture in one session, and all materials are provided. Please RSVP by calling 501-884-4440.
On-Demand Classes:
The Community Education Center offers many individual or on-demand classes. Our music classes are taught on Mondays, and we can schedule evening and weekend classes if there is an interest. We offer classes in cake decorating, computer operations, jewelry making, safe driving and languages including French and Spanish. Seasonal classes include Ukrainian Eggs, and Holiday Wreaths. These classes are taught by your fellow Fairfield Bay residents and artists from the local area– as a public service. That is what a COMMUNITY education center is all about – enriching the community with opportunities to learn new skills and expanding knowledge. Our tuition fees reflect a great value when compared to the cost of commercial priced classes. How are we able to provide quality programs? We ask our patrons to support the Education Center with an annual registration. This registration allows the patron to take classes, borrow laptop computers, sponsor group meetings in the facility, and participate in all of the associated events.
Get Started Learning Today: WE ARE OFFERING THE ANNUAL REGISTRATION AT A PRO-RATED FEE OF $20 WHICH IS VALID THROUGH THE MONTH OF DECEMBER 2018
We are located in the Village Mall, next to the Mayor’s office, and are open from 9am to 4pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Our classes and events can be found on our Facebook page: FFB Community Education Center. I hope you can join us.
