Chicago to Fairfield Bay

August 6, 2013 By Dan Feuer

In June 1917 “The Association of Lions Clubs” was established at a meeting in Chicago. Later that same year a national convention was held in Dallas, TX and a constitution, by-laws, object and a code of ethics were approved. Within three short years the club became international and grew across the globe to more than 46,000 clubs. Over 40 years ago on September 11, 1969 the charter establishing the Fairfield Bay Lions was signed by its first President, George Gisburne and a total of 53 charter members. In the succeeding years there have been many local Lions Club Presidents including our new president Lion Jeanie Hopper and many dedicated members but throughout the motto of “We Serve” has remained the primary goal for the Lions Club work in Fairfield Bay and the surrounding community. Many of our area youth have been served through the sponsorship of Cub and Boy Scout Troops and donations to other local youth projects and others in the area by providing eye screenings and eye glasses.
