Fairfeld Bay Hosts Full Blown Open Disc Golf Weekend
Friday – Sunday April 5-7, 2017
Third Annual Event Promises Activities for Amateurs to Pros.
• 3 Courses, 3 Days
• Championship Play at Indian Hills
• Family and Friend Gatherings
• On-Site Amenities, Food & Recreation
Fairfield Bay is pleased to announce the third annual Full Blown Open Disc Golf Weekend May 5-7, 2017. Presented by Fairfield Bay Recreation Department and Dynamic Discs, this disc golf weekend appeals to a full range of skills and ages.
A sanctioned Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) event, the weekend tournament is designed for recreational players as well as professionals, kids 6 and under to senior legends aged 80 and above. The weekend starts with a game of glow golf on Fairfield Bay’s own professional course, then includes play on an 18 hole disc golf course set up for the weekend’s activities, and concludes with a game on the beautiful Indian Hills Golf Course.
“More and more people are coming to Fairfield Bay to enjoy our fun course,” according to Fairfield Bay Recreation Manager, Cassie Lopez. ”It’s easy to learn, affordable, and when it’s played on a course as beautiful as ours, you can’t help but have a great time. Whether you’re watching the pros or playing yourself, this weekend promises to be an event that can’t be missed.”
Disc Golf Flying High
Disc golf has been gaining popularity the last three to five years. The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) reported a 25% increase in 2015 of new members and an overall 21% increase in tournaments nationwide. Arkansas itself has 203 members in the PDGA with 48 registered courses in the state and 21 events last year alone. “This game is growing,” Matt Loyd, Tournament Director for Full Blown Open added, “almost 30 of those courses in Arkansas were added in the last few years. A great example of the growth of disc golf in the state.”
Third Year, Growing Exponentially
Following the successes of both the 2015 and 2016 tourneys, the Full Blown tournament of 2017 promises even more excitement than before. Saturday features two rounds played on the beautiful temporary course. Lots of prizes and awards to be won! After play, have a blast at the Player’s Party at the Fairfield Lanes Bowling Alley from 6-10 PM. For just $10, players will have shoe rental, free bowling and a pulled pork and hot dog dinner.
Glow Golf in the Park – Kick Off
The weekend event is kicked off on Friday night with a Glow Golf game at Woodland Mead Park Disc Golf Course. Open to amateurs and professionals, this fun event has 9 holes/baskets to complete. Players bring their own glow discs and flashlights. The course has tightly wooded holes with several large boulders and beautiful landscaping designed by the local master gardeners group.
Loyd added, “We are excited to build on the tradition of the Full Blown Open in Fairfield Bay. Thanks to Indian Hills Golf Resort, The Little Red Restaurant, Recreation Department, Wyndham Resorts, and the entire Fairfield Bay Community, players of all skill levels are sure to have a fantastic time.”

Recreational, intermediate, advanced and master divisions of play are available in the Full Blown Open Disc Golf event. Winners in the professional division will be paid in cash and the amateurs will be paid in merchandise. There are a limited number of participant spots available.

The smell of BBQ is Intoxicating…
As you make your way through all the beautiful plants, you’ll notice the smell of BBQ smoke getting stronger. The third annual Blues and BBQ pairs award-winning flavors with music that will be sure to have your toes tapping and your heart thumping. “We are thrilled to watch how this festival has grown,” says Dan Feuer. “Each year we see new entries, and get to sample some of the best barbeque in Arkansas.” Music starts at 10 and continues throughout the afternoon, so be sure to bring some chairs, grab your friends, and just hang out in our great big backyard BBQ.
