FFB Education Center Course Update

Beginning in September, area resident, Erica Clements, will introduce us to Herbs! Erica grows herbs and sells them commercially, as well, and produces some of her own product lines of soap and essential oils and remedies etc. We are fortunate to have Erica offer to share her knowledge and experience with us. Here is the lineup for September:

Hands-On Herbs! Hands-On Herbs is a series workshop for anyone wanting to know more about herbs and simple ways to incorporate them in everyday life. Sessions will alternate between specific herbs and techniques. These are hands-on courses so come prepared to learn by doing! Each course will include project materials, recipes, and refreshments. Classes will be held at the Fairfield Bay Community Education Center every first and third week of the month, beginning September on Tuesday or Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. The first session, Lavender!, is being offered at an introductory price of $15. Subsequent classes will be $25-35, depending on course content and cost of materials. September’s classes include:

Lavender! Learn to grow it, eat it, heal and clean with it. Lavender has been used for its beneficial properties since Biblical times. This course will discuss the different applications of lavender and its essential oil as well as its many properties and rich history. We’ll also sample a variety of lavender treats and make a few items for around the house. You can take this class on either Tuesday or Thursday, $15.

During the third week of September, Erica’s class is called The Natural Spa. This course will cover one of the best ways to use herbs- pampering! We’ll go over some of the best herbs and essential oils to relax and indulge with. In this class, we will take a relaxing foot soak, make a sugar scrub, create a massage oil, blend a bath bag and put together a mask kit. You can choose to attend either Tuesday or Thursday evening. $35.

Safe Driving Classes To Be Held At Ed Center

Attention! All drivers over the age of 50! The Southwest Safe Driving Course, with certificate issued for your Auto Insurance Discount, will be held at the Fairfield Bay Community Education Center located at 130 Village Lane in the shopping mall on July 30, 2013 from 12:30 p.m. until approximately 4:30 p.m. Instructor, Lynn Williams, is donating her time in teaching this valuable class for seniors.

The Certificate issued after completion of the course is recognized by most automobile insurance providers and allows for a discount on your annual premium for a period of three years from date of issue. The certificate fee is only $10, which covers the administrative costs associated with producing the certificates for each person who completes the course. Please stop by the Education Center anytime, Monday thru Thursday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. to register and pay your $10 per person fee, by cash or check (to be made payable to Southwest Safe Driving).

The Education Center, a non profit organization, which relies on the generosity of the community, will not charge a fee of any kind to attend this class. Our sponsor, Doug Landry of A+ Insurance Center in Fairfield Bay, has made a generous donation that will offset all additional fees. Those of you who have participated in the program in years past, know that this $10 Certificate fee is the lowest possible rate ever offered!
