Some members of the Fairfield Bay Hiking Group will take a midweek hike to the Goat Trail in Newton County Wednesday March 6th .This will include hiking to the Big Bluff side trail . A portion of the Big Bluff side trail includes a narrow walking path along the side of the bluff with a 400 ft sheer “drop off” to the Buffalo River. However, your rewarded with one of the most panoramic views in Arkansas. The trail is only moderately difficult to traverse , but it will be a 6 -7 mile round trip as opposed to the Groups normal 3-4 mile hikes . The hikers will leave Fairfield Bay at 7:30 a.m. on March 6 and return about sunset that evening . If your interested in participating in this small group hike e-mail Tom Welch at [email protected]. or call Tom at 884-3435. Those hiking last Saturday, would like to thank Bob and Paula Wilson for hosting us at their Mountain retreat , which has a” million dollar view” along the Buffalo River north of Harriet . A more moderate and likely the last Group hike of the season is being planned by Georgia Peifer to Pinnacle Mountain State Park in late March in hopes of catching some early blooming native shrubs . Following that hike, two spring Buffalo float trips will be scheduled which will end this seasons Fairfield Bay Hiking Group activities . So, if you have thought about participating in these Group activities, before your physically no longer able to do so, but have not done so , the question becomes, If not now -when ? Please note, these activities are open to anyone in the Lake’s area. If you would like to be included in the Groups e- mailings contact Tom also
