Anyone who has ever written a poem is eligible to enter the Free Poetry Contest sponsored by Poetryfest, a nonprofit organization devoted to discovering new poets and helping them to achieve a wider audience for their poetry. There are 100 prizes to go around, and the last poet standing will receive a $1,000 cash reward.
The rules are simple: Send one poem only 21 lines or less to: Free Poetry Contest, PO Box 3561, Ashland, Oregon 97520, or enter online at www.freecontest.com Deadline for entering is June 10. Says Contest Director, Betty Starr-Joyal, “I encourage poets to send me the poem they’re most proud of, the one their family and friends seem to like best. I enjoy the responsibility of choosing the top 100 winners, and I know this contest will bring about exciting discoveries.”
Those sending entries should include their name and address on the same page as the poem. A winner’s list will be sent to all entrants, along with a free copy of the Contest Director’s popular essay, “How to Win a Poetry Contest.”
