West Side High School will soon enable parent and guardian email summaries as part of the Google Classroom platform. This is one of several ways that the school strives to keep parents informed, and it can be a valuable tool for parents.
“The email summaries will notify parents, either daily or weekly, of missing work or upcoming assignments in a clear, simple email message,” said Matt Irwin, principal. “Parents will also see announcements made by the teacher.”
All High School students are enrolled in Google Classrooms, and in those “classrooms,” teachers send announcements, provide resources, and assign work. Many teachers also require students to submit work through Google Classroom.
The email summaries, which are optional daily or weekly messages, will include: Missing work— Work that’s late at the time the email was sent Upcoming work— Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or work that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails) Class activity— Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers. In order to utilize this capability, guardians must provide an email address to the school in one of two methods:
FORM: Submit the email address by this form EMAIL: Email Shannon Green, shannon.gree[email protected] tsideeagles.org, the high school administrative assistant.
If emailing, be sure to include: Your child’s first and last name Your child’s grade Your name Your relationship to the child (either parent or legal guardian) Your phone number “Yes” or “no” —
Whether the email and phone can be used for school broadcast communication. The High School requests that parents provide email addresses as soon as possible so that Google Classroom email summaries can begin about the time of Parent- Teacher Conferences, which are scheduled for September 21.

Email summaries only provide information about work and announcements made through Google Classroom; the complete list of grades and assignments are available on Home Access Center.
