Under the leadership of Gary Edwards, Chuck Boerner, and Sheryl Paxton, work has been initiated to build a fishing dock/motorized barge that can be used for dock fishing at the marina. And with a seating capacity targeted at 60, the barge can be taken on lake cruises for dinners, reunions, weddings, conference outings, etc. Though useable by everyone, this vessel will give special recognition and rates in honor of our veterans. A unique feature of this 32 foot by 40 foot vessel will be a boom where a handicapped wheelchair bound, life jacketed person could be lifted off the barge and lowered into the water to enjoy the lake. Significant progress has been made: received to date are the 32 foot by 40 foot platform, the transom, the console, an outboard motor, and the lift boom.
What can you do to help? We will need life jackets, chairs, tables, cooking grills, a generator, and various construction materials as well as construction labor. Our goal is to get this completed by Memorial Day. If you can help in any way please contact Paul Wellenberger at 501-884-6500. Tax deductible donations of materials or cash can be made to the City of Fairfield Bay. We will also give recognition to sponsors, clubs and organizations that support this project on banners on the barge for view by our 20,000 plus visitors each year. I cannot think of a better, more visible way to honor those who have served us.
