By Cynthia Lacken, Master Gardener
At the August 1 Master Gardener meeting, we celebrated some important milestones. Barbara Danks of Greers Ferry, Ingeborg Baur of Fairfield Bay and Marolyn Reck of Clinton received their lifetime fifteen year name tags. Dianne Percefull of Edgemont, Martha Kilcrease of Bee Branch and Claudia Sands and Verna Hicks of Fairfield Bay all received their ten year pins. We congratulate these gardeners on their dedication, commitment and service to the Master Gardener program. They are an inspiration to us all.
We are also pleased to announce the continuation of our free, public education initiative in Clinton with the following programs:
•TUESDAY, AUGUST 16 “COMPOSTING HOW TO’S” by Danny Griffin, VBC County Extension Agent
•TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 “POLLINATOR FRIENDLY PLANTS FOR OUR DECLINING BEE POPULATION” By Marguerite Dory, VBC Master Gardener
•TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18 “STRAW BALE GARDENING” By Linda Yarman, Master Gardener
All programs will take place at the Clinton Library, 289 Factory Road in Clinton from noon to 1 p.m. We are calling them “lunch & learn” programs so bring a sack lunch and join us for an informative hour which will include questions and answers about any of your gardening issues.
Lastly, mark down October 14 and 15 on your calendar for the Master Gardener Fall Bulb Sale which will again be in conjunction with Fairfield Bay’s Octoberfest. Last year’s sale was a huge success, especially this spring when the bulbs exploded with loads of color and fragrance! There will be more information on this event in the weeks to come.
