Wednesday, May 20, 2015 began as a rainy, dreary day, but at Piecemakers’ monthly quilt club meeting the room was filled with a cheerful group of quilters with twenty-eight members and guests in attendance. Susan Moore welcomed everyone and Pam Davis gave the treasurer’s report. Eloise Brown conducted the business meeting. To add a little fun to the meeting, Eloise presented door prizes to several members selected at random from the sign-up sheet.
We have a Quilts of Valor quilt nearly ready to be presented. Rene Riggin suggested that sometime around the 4th of July would be a good time for our next Quilt of Valor presentation. Kay Otis reported on the trip to the Great Arkansas Quilt Show in Little Rock in April. Our next trip will be on June 18 for the National Quilting Association 46th Annual Quilt Show, “Down by the Riverside” at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. Ida Holt provided information for Fall Retreat, which is scheduled for the first week in October—October 5, 6, 7, & 8. Linda LaDoux presented the Block of the Month and passed out the pattern for the June block – block Number 6. Bernadine Walters reminded us about the Van Buren County Extension Homemakers Quilt Show, which will be held November 13 & 14. Piecemakers’ program for June will be presented by Pam Davis. She will be discussing Round Robins. Then Gail Goss will have a Make and Take for the Sit and Sew.
For Sew ‘n’ Tell this month we had: a star mystery quilt; an Eldon quilt; a finished 2015 BOM quilt; a red and white red work (hand embroidered) quilt for a granddaughter; microwave cozy; a green Chopsticks quilt for a grandson; a red, white & blue grid quilt; some zipper bags; a masculine jelly roll quilt; and a Christmas runner.
Rene Riggin presented the Sit and Sew on Hand Quilting. She had wonderful kits with a hand-quilting project and supplies for everyone who had signed up. She discussed different needles and threads used for different techniques and demonstrated how to do needle-turn appliqué and hand quilting. Then the participants practiced the techniques. Thank you Rene for the kits, supplies, and great information!
Piecemakers next meeting will be on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 10 .am. at the Methodist Church in Clinton. Anyone interested in quilts and quilting is invited to attend.
