“How Dreams Lead to Success” was the topic of the Greers Ferry Optimist Club awards Essay Contest. The contest was for young people under 19 years of age who have not yet graduated from high school. $300 was awarded to first place winner Brianne Ramsey, $200 to second place winner Hope Moore, and $100 each to third place tie winners Caleb Long and Lyndsey Towery.
Prizes for the Oratorical Contest were awarded by the Greers Ferry Optimist Club at their regular meeting on May 12. The topic of the speech was “How My Passions Impact the World”. Each applicant was required to give a 4- to 5-minute speech. First place prize of $300 was won by Kaleb Dewberry, second place prize of $200 was awarded to Lyndsey Towery, and third place was a tie with $100 each awarded to Caleb Long and Rebekah Thomas. All students are from West Side High School in Greers Ferry.
