We are so proud to have Alecs as our Featured Artist of the month. Alecs is a very special person and is family oriented. She is most proud of being a mother because it was so difficult for her to make this happen. She has two kind, generous, handsome sons; one is Beau who is married and living in Arizona, and one John living with her in Edgemont. She has three grandchildren, two grown, from Beau and a furry little Maltese (Magnolia Blossom, aka ‘Noli’). Alecs graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Alecs retired from the State of Illinois Department of Public Health and permanently moved to Edgemont in 2009. Although she had never had any training in art, her retirement goal was to learn to paint. She had a lifelong passion for the arts, but felt like she had no talent. Luckily, fate led her to a community, which promotes the arts, and welcomed her into the North Central Arkansas (NCA) Artist League which recently elected her president. Each of the members are exceptional artists always willing to offer suggestions and help, and the league’s outstanding workshops, demos, and programs have taught her so much. While she has learned from so many of the members, past and present, she was blessed to be mentored by a truly amazing artist, Dorothy Hendrickson, who took her under her wing for private tutoring. Alecs misses her every day.
Besides painting, she loves to travel, and recently returned from Italy, and will be going to the Indy 400 NASCAR race soon. She is an avid reader, 3-5 books a week, a diehard football fan, loves boating in their Bears Boat on the lake, and assist with painting the sets for the theater productions at Fairfield Bay. She is also a committee member of the North Central Art Gallery, participates in a twice weekly senior exercise class, attends St Francis of Assisi Church, bowls in the Thursday night league at Fairfield Lanes, and loves animals.
