It’s summer and it’s hot, but there were more than 20 members in attendance at Piecemakers monthly quilt club meeting on Wednesday, July 15. Eloise Brown welcomed everyone and Pam Davis gave the treasurer’s report. Then, Eloise conducted the business meeting. Kay Otis gave a report on the bus trip to the National Quilting Association 46th Annual Quilt Show, “Down by the Riverside” on Thursday, June 18, 2015. The trip went well, with 15 Piecemakers’ members attending the show. She has scheduled the bus again for Thursday, October 22 for the Hill ‘n’ Hollow Quilt Show in Mountain Home. Ramona Johnson, standing in for Linda LaDoux, presented the Block of the Month and passed out the pattern for the August block – block Number 7. There were four participants with completed blocks and Brenda Dunlap won the drawing for a Fat Quarter. Eloise expressed appreciation to Pam Davis who presented our program last month on the Round Robin Quilts and Gail Goss for last month’s Sit and Sew table runner project. Four participants brought their completed watermelon runners and Eloise won the prize drawing for a lovely, quilted, scissor caddy made by Jan Savu. Fall Retreat is scheduled for October 5, 6, 7, & 8 at Mount Eagle. Sign-up will begin in August. Bernadine Walters reminded us about the Van Buren County Extension Homemakers Quilt Show, which is scheduled for November 13 & 14. She brought quilt show information and entry forms. Quilts will need to be turned in on Tuesday, November 10. Our numbers may have been few, but we had an abundant Sew ‘n’ Tell. This month we saw: some zipper bags from a MSQC tutorial; a hand embroidered Christmas wall hanging; a hand embroidered, angel, baby quilt, top; a Sunbonnet Sue quilt top; a Batik quilt top; a Parrot runner and a patriotic runner; a crocheted Owl Bag; 3 more runners; a wool and cotton runner; a wool table topper; some zipper bags made from selvedges; a cat child’s quilt; a “500 miles” child’s quilt; a dragon stars quilt with truck backing; a Bonnie Hunter Bricks in the Barnyard quilt made from men’s shirts; a Bonnie Hunter Sister’s Choice quilt with sashing; a Scattered Stars quilt; a Bonnie Hunter leaders and enders Crab Apple Orchard quilt; a Bear Paw Mountain Log Cabin quilt; a Star runner; a flannel quilt made from a kit from Ritsy Rags; a Black, White, and Red stars in rows quilt. Eloise lead the Sit and Sew for July. She provided Kits to make Zipper bags. The fabric choices were lovely and each person chose their favorite kit. The project was a bit of a challenge but everyone was pleased with her accomplishment. Thank you Eloise for the great project and for providing the materials! Piecemakers next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Clinton. Anyone interested in quilts or quilting are welcome to attend.
