Any civic or charitable organization should have a purpose or focus and Lions Clubs are no different. Lions Clubs focus includes several areas (four major ones include sight, youth, disaster relief and humanitarian needs). We Give Sight. LCIF helps to restore sight and prevent blindness by improving eye care. We Support Youth, through Lions Quest and other projects, youth enjoy opportunities to develop and succeed. We Provide Disaster Relief. LCIF is committed to immediate and long-term assistance. We Meet Humanitarian Needs. Programs improve our health, fight measles and provide aid to the disabled and hearing impaired. (www.lcif.org). These are efforts of Lions Clubs International which are supported by annual dues paid by each Lions Club member. Local efforts in these areas must be chosen and funded by the local club such as the Fairfield Bay Lions. For instance, when you see aluminum can containers at local businesses or at the recycle center, local Lions use those funds to support youth programs in this area. Collection boxes for glasses help us support sight programs and fund raisers, like pancake breakfasts and BINGO, help the Fairfield Bay Lions fund other projects and assist other civic and charitable organizations.
Tuesday night BINGO is on temporary hold until Tuesday March 3 when doors will again open at 5:30 p.m. with the first game called at 6 pm. The first scheduled Fairfield Bay Lions Club meeting of 2015 will be on Thursday, February 12 with dinner served at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting and speaker at 6 pm. In February, we will resume our regular schedule for meetings on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. Local residents and visitors are always welcome at our regular meetings and information on becoming a Lion can be obtained from our Membership Chair, Lion Robert Smith @ 501-253-0552 or Lion President Ed Roberts @ 884-3679.
