Summertime is upon us, and there is no shortage of activity with your Cornerstone Society!
Our May meeting was a very productive one, with two grant requests being approved, and one being tabled for further discussion at our next meeting to be held in August. The two grants approved were:
• A grant to partner with the City of Fairfield Bay and the Fairfield Bay Community Club to fund a feasibility study for the provision of wifi throughout Fairfield Bay. Estimated cost of our portion would be $3400.00
• A grant to bring a group of students from the Cherokee Nation to perform at the Indian Rock Cave on Tuesday, July 3 as part of the July 4th Festivities in Fairfield Bay. We would provide lodging and meals for approximately 30 students and chaperones. The amount of the grant awarded is $1500.00
The third grant proposed was from our Volunteer Fire Department, requesting funds to be used toward the construction of a 3000 gallon tank truck. This truck would be the third of its kind in Fairfield Bay, and would be instrumental in helping to fight fires in places where access to hydrants was difficult. The request was tabled for further discussion at the August meeting, as members present needed further information about the project in order to make an informed decision.
We encourage all Cornerstone members to attend these meetings, as your voice and opinion is valued. Our next meeting will be August 23. Reminders will be sent out prior to the meeting.
