The hiking group was off again!! On March 20 we visited Petit Jean State Park and hiked the Cedar Falls Trail. This trail descends deep into Cedar Creek Canyon. The first 1/2 mile desended more than 200 feet down steps cut from rock by the civilian conservation corps more than 50 years ago. The trail follows Cedar Creek another 1/2 mile to Cedar Falls, one of the state’s most spectacular sights. Cedar Falls cascades more than 90 feet to the canyon floor. Cedar Creek Canyon was added to the register of Arkansas Natural Areas in 1977. Breakfast at Mather Lodge was excellent. We would like to thank Georgia Peifer for planning this trip. Tom Welch is in the works for a bike hike featuring historic homes in Little Rock and then riding the trail across the Arkansas River. There will be two floats trips coming up as well. Please e-mail [email protected] if you would like to get on the e-mail list for the hiking group.
