Why prepare for a Disaster???
As stated below in the Guide to Disaster Preparedness written by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), “Are You Ready” publication H-34, September, 1990…
“Everyday millions of people wake up, go to work, and take kids to school. But ever so often, the unexpected will happen…earthquake, a devastating fire, an ice storm, or some other disaster. Families which have prepared can reduce the fear, panic, inconvenience and losses that surround a disaster. They can be ready to evacuate their homes, make their stays in public shelters more comfortable and be able to take care of medical needs.”
We of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) in Fairfield Bay have set up emergency shelter centers at local churches in the Bay and are working to set up the Greenwood Building located by Fire Station #2 near the Marina. The Greenwood Building will include a generator, food supplies, medical supplies and a training site. We are also in the process of procuring emergency shelter signs to post at all locations to enable easy identification. Plans are in the works to provide a Residential Emergency Preparedness Check List which will be distributed to every church, the Senior Citizen Center, and other public locations. The checklist will assist you in being prepared and will be available for distribution about mid-February, 2016.
