The “Discover” breakfasts were reformatted for 2014 and relocated to the Conference Center. Many local businesses became engaged and contributed to covering a portion of the costs of the presentation. Many thanks to all who participated this year!
Mayor/GM Paul Wellenberger and Marina Manager Sheryl Paxton were the presenters for the roughly 45 minute experience held each Monday for Wyndham guests and other visitors staying in local accommodations. All were treated to a biscuit and gravy breakfast to fortify them for all the fun awaiting them in the Bay.
Simply stated, we wanted everyone visiting the Bay to know just how many ways they could entertain, feed, pamper and enjoy themselves without ever leaving FFB during their stay. The audio/visual presentation was supplemented by numerous drawings awarding gift certificates and prizes to those in attendance.
We began this year March 10 and through October 13 (33 weeks) we have engaged over 1,300 families that have visited the Bay. Mayor Wellenberger believes that the surest measurement of the impact of these efforts is the rising sales tax revenue in the City. Proof positive that visitors are spending more of their time and money right here in the Bay. Here is a comparison of FFB to local and state performance:
•Fairfield Bay taxes up 7% last 12 months
•Van Buren County taxes up % last 12 months
•State of Arkansas taxes up % YTD
We are in the process of reimagining the “Discover” experience for next year to utilize our wonderful theatre space in the Conference Center. We are also working on additional means of reaching visitors who do not attend these breakfasts, so even more of our guests will “Stay & Play in the Bay.”
