Feature artist, Rebecca Loftis was born in Marshall County which is in the Northern panhandle of West Virginia. She has lived in Arkansas since 1973. Rebecca’s interest in Art came early as a teenager. She loved to draw pictures of people. Her art education has been life drawing and painting classes at the Arts Center in Little Rock and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with live models and Stephen Cefalo as the instructor. She also has taken art classes at ASU in Heber with Janelle Selvidge plus lots of practice over the years of painting what she loved. Rebecca has won numerous awards for portraiture and a first place in landscape at the Stuttgart Grand Prairie Art Show for the painting of the oldest cypress tree in Arkansas. This was a mutual effort of her & her husband. She said “he started it and I finished it.” She likes to paint people, flowers, trees, animals, abstracts, and some landscapes. Rebecca wants to do more plein air painting in the future. She has painted many paintings of her children and grandchildren and other family members. Rebecca said “I like to paint trees because they catch my attention either as unique shapes or it has struggled to maintain its dignity as an important being on earth.” She likes to paint flowers that she has grown, especially orchids that bloom infrequently and never tires of their beauty in a painting. She also likes to paint Sunflowers with their vibrant colors that the bees are so attracted to. One of her paintings that are on display at the Cleburne County Library is of a parade for the 39th National Guard Soldiers that was a welcome home from Iraq. The streets of Heber Springs were lined with people welcoming them home. Rebecca feels blessed with a creative spirit and a desire to preserve some of life’s beauty. She has art on display at the Swanson’s Art of America in McCrory, AR. You are invited to come and view Rebecca’s paintings and the new artwork that is now at the NCA Art Gallery, Fairfield Bay Conference Center.
