It is time for our youth grades 9-12 to enter two of the VFW and it’s Auxiliary’s contests. The theme for Voice of Democracy is “Why Veterans Are Important To Our Nation’s History And Future.” The state level prize is a free trip to Washington D.C, and a chance to win $30,000. Each participant must write a 3-5 minute essay, then get it recorded. You may contact Bob Connell at KFFB for recording. The Shirley School has applications at their office and also from Mr. Mannon. Home school students can get applications from the Connells or Wilsons. The essay and CD must be submitted to Marge Wright by October 31. If you have questions call 501-253-0714. You may “pull up” last year’s winner at www.vfw.org. The Patriot’s Pen theme is “Why I appreciate America’s Veterans.” This is for grades 6, 7 & 8. To participate, write an essay between 300 and 400 words. The prize for this contest is a trip to Washington D.C. Entries must be returned to Marge Wright by October 31.
