Recreation Tip by Sheryl Paxton, Recreation Manager

homepics_27Did you know that March is a fantastic month for hiking in Arkansas?  Leafless trees lead to gorgeous views, the cool weather entices the body to go the extra mile, and the bugs, snakes, and poisonous plants are at a minimum.  So, grab a jacket, a bottle of water and a friend and take to a scenic trail this month.

Don’t forget we have some lovely trails here right in the Bay with Sugar Loaf Mountain Trail, Indian Rock Cave Trail, Rambling Cove Trail, and the Indian Falls Trail.  For more information on these local trails, you can pick up a brochure at the Chamber of Commerce.  The Fairfield Bay Marina offers the weekly Sugar Loaf shuttle on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the morning for an easy trip to the mountain.

Would you like to hike in a group?  Fairfield Bay has a hiking group that schedules monthly hikes around the state.  Contact Tom Welch at twelch1950@yahoo.com to sign up for the next trip today!
