Piecemakers March News

On Wednesday, March 19, more than thirty happy quilters gathered for Piecemakers monthly Quilt Club meeting. Linda LaDoux, club vice-president, welcomed members; Pamela Davis gave the treasurers report; Jill Hardison gave the Sunshine Report; and Victoria Banks, club president, conducted the business meeting. Linda LaDoux presented the Block of the Month. Twenty members had completed the February block. Prizewinners were Mary Myers and Diane Smith. Ramona Johnson, then, gave a report on the success of the Quilt Retreat in February and announced that the next retreat is scheduled for September 29 through October 2. The program for April will be lead by Ramona Johnson. It is a “Quilt of Valor” Project, which will be a combined Challenge and Community Project. Challenge details will be given in April. Jill Hardison brought some “Tulip Permanent Fabric Markers” to show how they work and how great they look. She also brought some quilt blocks that had been made simply by drawing on Muslin squares with the markers. For Sew and Tell Chiquita Wylie shared a quilt made from blocks pieced by her great-grandmother and that her mother had hand-quilted. We also saw: some wide open bags; microwave bowl cozies; a thread catcher; a completed quilt top from our 2013 mystery quilt; a rag quilt; a jacket; Celtic Solstice quilt; a finished 2013 Amish mystery quilt; a pinwheel quilt top, some drawstring bags; bargello place mats; coasters; small tote; a 3-zipper bag; see-through zipper bag; an X-block quilt and a smaller quilt made from the “left-overs”; a church landscape quilt with intricate quilting; and a disappearing 9-patch baby quilt. Sit and Sew was String Quilt piecing led by Linda LaDoux. Linda had samples of different ways string piecing can be used to make different blocks and in different quilt designs. She demonstrated how to mark the foundation blocks and the piecing and pressing process to make the blocks. Thank you Linda for showing us how to make such beautiful quilts from scraps! Piecemakers next meeting will be April 16, 2014, at 10:00 am at the Methodist Church in Clinton. Visitors are welcome to attend.
