Nearly 30 enthusiastic quilters were in attendance at Piecemakers monthly quilt club meeting on Wednesday, August 19. Susan Moore welcomed members and guests and Pam Davis gave the Treasurer’s report. Eloise Brown conducted the business meeting. Virginia Reynolds gave the Sunshine Report.
Bernadine Walters reminded us about the Van Buren County Extension Homemakers Quilt Show, which will be held November 13 & 14. Entries for the quilt show will need to be turned in on Tuesday, November 10 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Van Buren County Fairgrounds. Eloise talked about the Piecemakers’ booth for the quilt show. It was decided that we will have one booth to display information about our quilt club and to have hourly demonstrations.
Kay Otis announced that she has scheduled the bus for Thursday, October 22 for the Hill ‘n’ Hollow Quilt Show in Mountain Home. Sign up for the bus trip will begin at our September meeting. Fall Retreat is scheduled for October 5 through 8 and signing up has begun. Members can sign up first; if there are spaces left, friends can sign up starting at the September meeting.
Ramona Johnson, standing in for Linda LaDoux, presented the Block of the Month and passed out the pattern for the September block – block Number 8. There were five participants with completed blocks. Gail Goss won the drawing for a Fat Quarter. Six participants brought their completed bags from the July Sit and Sew. Doris Brown won the prize drawing for a lovely quilted scissor caddy made by Jan Savu and Brenda Dunlap won a cute pin cushion also made by Jan. Thank you, Eloise, for a great Sit and Sew Project; and thank you, Jan, for the lovely prizes.
For Sew ‘n’ Tell this month we saw: two casserole carriers made out of fat quarters; a Bonnie Hunter Rick Rack 9-patch quilt; a bag; pictures from a trip to the Missouri Star Quilt Company; a Tucker Tool Party quilt; a stuffed patchwork puppy; microwave cozies; gift bag; a felted wool bag for ear buds; gift card holders; a hexagon quilt; a wildlife quilt top; tea towel; pin cushions; sewing tote; bag with a broach embellishment; another sewing tote; 4 table toppers; 4 placemats; a sewing supply keeper; mumbo gumbo quilt.
Jill Hardison presented the program demonstrating the Fancy Folded Star from the Moda Bake Shop website. She demonstrated the preparation steps and let the participants practice the folding technique. It is a beautiful project and not as difficult as it looks. Thank you Jill for the fun and informative class. Our program for September will be a T-Shirt quilt demonstration by Eloise Brown. Piecemakers next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Clinton. Anyone interested in quilts or quilting is invited to attend.
