“For the past year, Lions have addressed the global illiteracy issue by promoting early reading and improved access to education in their communities. With over 2 million volunteer hours and 6 million people served as part of the Reading Action Program in 2012-2013, the Lions Club International Board of Directors is extending the campaign for a minimum of 10 years.” The Fairfield Bay Lions Club is proud to join with the Fairfield Bay Library and the Rotary Club of Fairfield Bay in the Summer Reading Program ‘Dig into Reading’. On Friday June 21st @ 10:30 am, the Lions Den on Dave Creek Parkway will host Tommy’s Wacky Magic Show which is family entertainment for kids of all ages. Everyone is invited and as in the best things in life it’s FREE. Tommy Terrific is bringing his magical entertainment to the Bay as he has in the past and if you have never been able to attend bring a grand child, a neighbors child or your own inner child and join us in promoting literacy in the Bay area. “We are excited to partner with other organizations that make reading and literacy a focus of their work.” (www.lionsclubs.org). Our next regular meeting will be on Thursday June 13th when our speaker will be George Kelly with the Arkansas Alzheimer’s Association. The meeting begins with dinner at 5:30 pm (for reservations contact membership chair Lion Mary Meadows @ 884-6388) followed by our speaker at 6pm. On Thursday June 27th we will have installation of our incoming officers for 2013 – 2014 and our guest speaker will be Alice Chambers, Fairfield Bay Library Coordinator. Please join us for our All-U-Can Eat pancakes or biscuits and gravy breakfasts each Tuesday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. – 10 a.m.
BINGO is held each Monday evening with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the first game called at 7pm and the Mark McCord show is each Tuesday from 7 – 9 pm with tickets available at the door. Please come and join us for one of these events and visiting Lions and the public are always welcome at our monthly meetings.
