In reading some recent articles we were reminded that the motto of Lions Clubs International is “We Serve”. LCIF has four main areas of service to the world – “restoring Sight, providing disaster relief, supporting youth, and addressing other humanitarian needs such as health and disability. The Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is embarking on its 44th year of supporting Lions’ humanitarian projects. The LCIF has awarded 10,000 grants totaling US $708 million since its founding, and the funds help the lives of millions worldwide. At the Lions Clubs International convention held last June at Busan, South Korea, the Republic of Tajikistan was recognized with its first Lions club chartered last spring, becoming the 207th country in sharing worldwide service of Lions and joining the latest chartering of Lions clubs in the Kingdom of Bhutan in 2010 and the Republic of Iraq in 2009.” These additions to Lions Clubs International continue the organization as the world’s largest volunteer service group with more than 1.35 millions members in some 46,000 Lions Clubs.
