What a fun evening everyone had at the “Fun” d raiser on Saturday evening at the Our Towne Conference and Visitor Center. The atmosphere at the center was upbeat, exciting and filled with community spirit. We had lots of local folks and visitors in the room, all with smiles on their faces and a wonderful buzz all around from people sharing the first event at the new center. It had been eleven years since the lights were turned off, the door locked and the center left to die. On Saturday night, the center came back to life with a vengeance. The doors were opened even though the work is not totally finished. Everyone brought their own lawn chair and found a special place in the large conference center meeting room to enjoy their chicken or hot dog or jambalaya. Thanks to the Kirk of the Hills Men for providing the hot dogs and jambalaya and Cindy Wellenberger for the fried chicken and fixens!
The entertainment for the evening was provided by Sounds of Praise, a Southern Gospel Group from Fairfield Bay. Members of this group are Doyle Scroggins, Cindy Wellenberger, Bob and Wilba Thompson. Gospel saxophone provided by Darrell Osborn also of Fairfield Bay and State Senator Jason Rapert and Living Grace, a Blue Grass gospel group from Conway. From the opening remarks by our Mayor, Paul Wellenberger, to the final song sung by Living Grace, the evening was filled with the joy of music, laughter, smiles, handshakes and hugs. What a great way to bring new life to this wonderful new Fairfield Bay Conference Center. Oh, by the way, we raised over $4,000.00 for much needed furnishings for the center. Thank you everyone!
