ANNUAL LIBRARY BOOK SALE:
If you did not come see us at the book sale, you missed some great books and a lot of bargains. Always wanted to try a new author but didn’t want to spend $28 on one of their books? You could have perhaps found one for $2….
The book sale is a lot of work for the library, its volunteers and ancillary helpers who haul the books over there and what’s left back again, the ones that help with our ‘pay it forward’ at the end of the sale. Each and everyone deserves a huge THANK YOU.
I don’t know the final amount we raised at the writing of this newsletter because I’m just the relayer of the information but it will go a long way to helping us maintain the library in the manner to which you have come to expect.
PAY IT FORWARD:
At the end of the book sale we box up the books with a plan in place. First, we take care of the Veterans who are in the VA facilities and clinics. They get paperbacks, some hardbacks and this year, we were able to send them some large print books, movies and audiobooks we had removed from our catalog. Those with vision problems will be delighted to have some reading and listening materials. By Sunday, John E had 37 boxes of these materials at the VA ready for them to distribute. Thank you John! Other boxes will be distributed among other organizations so that they can raise funds too.
SUMMER READING PROGRAMS:
Yes, you read that right……. It’s programs plural, one for the kids and the big kids (adults) too!!! Both programs begin June 4th and end on August 15th.
In addition to encouraging the kids to read we will have a return visit from Tommy Terrific who gears his magic show around the theme of each years program. This year it is “LIBRARIES ROCK”. We already knew that, but it never hurts to be reminded…..Tommy Terrific will be performing his magic on Friday, June 29th at 10:30am. Thanks to the folks at the Lions Club you will be able to enjoy the show inside in the Cool instead of sweltering outside. A HUGE Thanks to the Rotary Club for sponsoring our Summer Reading Program activities.
We are also partnering with Little Red River Audubon Society and inviting you to attend their annual CREATURE FEATURE. The Little Rock Zoo brings some critters, creatures and birds to Clinton and so you can get up close and personal with them while learning more about them. It will take place on Tuesday, June 26th at 6pm in the Petit Jean Electric Cooperative community room at 270 Quality Drive in Clinton. Both events are free.
Other weekly programs for the kids are still being finalized.
Adult Summer Reading Program…….why should the kids have all the fun!?! We’ve decided to kick off your summer with an Adult Reading challenge….Read or listen to AT LEAST 3 books between June 4th and August 15th….Complete a log and you’re entered into the grand prize drawings. That’s all there is to it…..easy peasey!! Stop by the Library for your logs. ALL logs must be returned by Saturday, August 16.
