Trudy Gautreau talked to our Rotary Club about the Community Education Center which she took over as the Education Center Director on April 1, 2014. Trudy moved to Fairfield Bay in August of 2013, after having lived for 65 years in the State of Louisiana. She was born and raised in a small town about 65 miles from Shreveport, LA in Northwest Louisiana. She spent most of her adult life in South Louisiana having worked for over 30 years as a Human Resource professional for the State of Louisiana.
The Community Education Center is part of the Fairfield Bay City government. It is a non-profit education center offering “not for credit” leisure, hobby and professional development classes. The Center is affiliated with Arkansas State University in Heber Springs- Continuing Education Department.
The motto at the Education Center is “Today’s A Good Day To Make A Memory”.
Enjoying stimulating mental challenges is a good place to start making that memory. Keeping your brain active can increase your vitality. You can keep your brain active by learning challenging new skills. Studies show that maintaining a sharp mind is of utmost importance to seniors.
Recognizing the benefits of leisure, hobby and professional development classes for the citizens of Fairfield Bay has and will always be a primary goal of the Education Center. The education center will try very hard to make classes fun and affordable. The instructors are very knowledgeable and also generous with their time.
We in Fairfield Bay are fortunate to have an education center. There always new things to learn. I am a retired electronic engineer yet had to take additional instruction in Windows use.
