Mother Nature must have thought this new event was named Rainin’ in the Bay. Rain varied from light to moderate throughout the day with temperatures falling along with the rain. Anyone not familiar with the spirit of FFB likely expected a total washout.
Nothing could have been further from the truth! The spirit of the volunteers overcame Mother Nature’s best efforts to dampen our day. The VBC Master Gardeners had a bountiful display of plant life for sale and plant lovers never doubted for a moment the show would go on. The gardeners were there early and stayed late, enjoying one of the best sales years ever!
Many vendors showed up in spite of the weather. Our experts provided the tips as promised with most of the crowd huddled on the porch of the cabin along with the presenters. Janet Carson had us laughing and learning with her wit and wisdom. Still on the Hill and the Sounds of Praise sounded beautiful as they performed for us.
Jack’s served tasty foods throughout the event and the Kirk Men’s Club served almost 200 of their famous hot dogs. Samples and goodies from vendors delighted our taste buds as well.
We wrapped up the day’s schedule a bit early and many headed home for a hot shower and dry clothes before joining nearly 80 other folks at IHCC for the evening dinner and concert featuring Still on the Hill. We were thoroughly entertained with their unique “folk-grass” presentation, then 3 lucky guests won beautiful paintings donated by the Artists League to wrap up the evening.
Mother Nature may have learned a valuable lesson that day. You just can’t dampen the spirit of this wonderful community we call home!
