These national programs have been held for 75 years. American Legion & Aux Post 333 FFB sponsors juniors from the local High Schools to attend Boys/Girls State. It was held May, 25 – 30, 2014. Boys State was at ACU in Conway and Girls State was at Harding University in Searcy. The delegates attending Boys’ State were Ben Smith and Austin Decker from Clinton HS and Dylan Christian from Shirley HS, Jacob Maez from Westside HS. The delegates attending Girls’ State were Rebecca Lee Willingham and Whitney Marie Wilkins from Clinton HS and Alexis Renee Barnes from Westside HS. Students are sponsored from across Arkansas. During the week, they elect officials starting at the local, district and state levels. The final day is at the State House where they can sit in the “Governor’s” seat and do business. It puts elections and politics in action. Americanism and Patriotism are added. On their off time, they spend it doing their school interests, basketball, football, band, etc, and making long lasting friendships. All in all, they have a good time and learn a few things about how government works. They elect 2 representatives each to attend Boys/Girls Nation in Washington, DC.
